Introducing
Scassa Monakee bring something unique to the expanding movement of live drum & bass. The acclaimed Scassa live shows consist of all their tunes mixed into one another by the band, seamlessly blending the music into one unbroken set as a DJ would. Unlike so many others, Scassa don’t use loops and they don’t compromise with their material – there’s no Hip-hop, no Garage, no down-tempo tunes and no gaps. Just pure, hard, proper live d&b.

Scassa burst onto the scene up north in 2003 by winning competitions, blowing away all-comers with their completely live and unsequenced sound. They ended the year headlining a festival in York to over 4000 people, and have since appeared on Channel 4, Channel U and BBC radio. As word spread Scassa became breakbeat guns for hire, earning a residency at Kitchen at the Rhythm Factory in Whitechapel. Here they’ve provided beats for Shabba, Skibadee, Det and the Ragga Twins, and on a hiphop tip they’ve backed Black Twang, Karl Hinds, Skeme, and Estelle. Guest MCs in Scassa’s d&b sets have included Rodney P, Navigator, Dynamite and Roots Manuva. Meanwhile the full 6-piece line up have been rinsing out festivals and setting clubs alight, leaving the liquid sound behind and moving into raw, dark, heavy heavy territory.

2006 brings big things, including some live d&b nights in London, the Kitchen residency continued, more festival dates and a collaboration with DJ Ruckspin. Expect a CD single and a 12” soon, and an album to follow in the spring.
